Why did American Al Qaeda spokesman Adam Gadahn have to join a foreign mind control cult?

What was wrong with joining a good ole American mind control cult, Adam? Is patriotism completely dead? This guy, a Californian no less, flies to Pakistan to get brainwashed? Are there no more moonies in LA?? He could've just moved to the Bay Area for crying out loud. Was it the suicides? He could've joined Heaven's Gates or the People's Temple! If he just had to be a muslim, he could've joined the Nation of Islam for crying out loud, I think they let whites in now!
