Does oral medication work well for fungal infections?

i have been treating my jock itch with an antifungal cream for a number of weeks and the symptoms have got a lot better, i just cant get rid of the final part of the infections. my doctor has prescribed antifungal oral medication along with a cream. the tablet name is terbinafine. does anyone know if this will work well wen it comes to curing s fungal infection of the groin? thank u
