What type of unit will the army place an arabic linguist/interpreter in and what will his rotation stay?

in Iraq be like? He's active duty and he's going straight from training to Iraq but he doesn't know his unit yet until he gets to Bagdad? Who do they work with and how long do they stay? If he's non combact does he get a body guard besides the gun they give him? Also, he's college education so how will he go about going from green to gold since he's been to bootcamp already?
