Stinky flatware/utensils - HELP!?

I have a huge batch of flatware that was left in the dish pan (I don't have a dishwasher) for too long and now it smells like a combo of rusty metal and fish oil (though I haven't made fish in a long time!). I have tried to clean each piece several times with lots of soap and a clean scouring pad, and even boiled the pieces in lemon water, but the smell remains and is so strong that it leaves our hands smelling too! Anyone have any ideas on how to clean/deodorize these things?! Thanks in advance.
